MINRES Training Institute has tailored 10, two-day workshops which cover 25 units of competency required to obtain the Diploma of Surface Operations Management (RII50120) and the Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) simultaneously.

This combined course is offered in a blended environment and can be undertaken in the classroom or via live webinar.

Target Audience

This course specifically targets Quarry Managers, Site Senior Executives, Supervisors and other persons in Leadership roles in the extractive industry.

Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of mine managers in an open cut coal or metalliferous mine or a quarry, who perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment, roles and techniques for themselves and others.

They are required to demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills and implement safety management plans.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Entry Requirements

Please ask your trainer and assessor if this is the right path of enrolment.

There are no other entry requirements.

Packaging Rules

The following provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

Total number of units = 13

2 core units plus

11 elective units , of which:

  • At least four (4) must be chosen from Group A
  • No more than five (5) may be chosen from Group B
  • Up to two (2) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.

There are no prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.

Please download the RPL Kit provided and complete as per the instructions inside the document.

You will be required to upload ALL evidence in a SINGLE .zip file for assessment by the assigned Trainer and Assessor.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible for a Diploma of Surface Operations Management which will meet the requirements for the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee, enabling you to make application for your SSE notice. You also have the option to choose G2 as an elective.
